There has been a surge of influencers and bloggers that have been sharing this oral hygiene tool. And you are probably wondering ‘Do tongue scrapers work? and if they do, which do I get?’. However, many cultures have been using tongue scrapers, although the tongue scrapers may be in different shapes or made out of different materials.

What are tongue scrapers?
The particular tongue scrapers I am mentioning here are U shaped, sturdy tools that are used to remove toxins, food and dead cells from your tongue, this is the white coating you have on your tongue as soon as you wake up. The copper tongue scraper is my favourite type. Copper, is also the traditional material used in Ayurveda.
Whilst you sleep, these nasties accumulate on the tongue as your mouth dries out. This is another reason why I recommend brushing your teeth first thing in the morning, before you eat or even drink water.
What are the benefits of it?
- Good breath
- Prevents reabsorption of toxins
- Quick to use
- Promotes healthy oral hygiene
- Removes toxins and all those nasties from your tongue, of course!
- Antibacterial and antimicrobial
- Enhances taste buds
- Easy to clean
So yes, tongue scrapers do work. They are essential to my oral hygiene routine, that I cannot even imagine travelling without one. I have linked to the one I use here, it is inexpensive and gets the job done!
If you have tried a tongue scrapper before, let me know how it changed your oral hygiene? And if not, will you be trying the copper tongue scrappers?
