If there is one thing that is consistent during the winter months, is the general feeling of dry lips. If this isn’t consistent for you, count yourself lucky! Every winter, I run to my local Superdrugs or Savers to stock up on lip balms and oils and place them in random handbags, in case I ever forget my lip balm at home. This works out for me, however you can always take it a step further and add li scrubs. Lip scrubs are excellent at keeping your lips nice and soft, especially when you want to maintain their moisture during the harsh winters.
Growing up, lip scrubs and body scrubs were something that me and my family used to always DIY ourselves. We’d sit on the kitchen table mixing oils with a grainy ingredient to scrub away dead skin. However, as I got older I kind of got lazy and stopped. I started purchasing lip scrubs from stores since I thought it was more convenient. Of which I’m sure not all are 100% natural, due to the added preservatives.
Adding lip scrubs into my adult lip care routine has been fundamental to maintaining my lip’s softness throughout the year, and it has improved the texture of my lips. Also, matte and satin lipsticks sit smoothly on my lips now which I appreciate as a makeup lover.
The lip scrub you will find below is a very popular choice for a homemade lip scrub. It’s super easy to make, cheap and can last you a while if properly preserved. Another great thing is that you can use it all over your body, even your feet.
So, if you want smooth and moisturised lips in less than 5 minutes, whip this up and let me know what you think.
Ingredients for a Lip Scrub:
- 2 teaspoons of Sugar
- 1 teaspoon of Honey
Lip Scrub Directions:
Get a small container of choice. I like to use small travel containers. They are usually cheap and can be reused. However, you are free to use glass containers too, if you want to be fancy.
If you are planning on using the lip scrub more than once, make sure that your container has a lid so that you can preserve your lip scrub for multiple uses.
First, add your sugar to your container, then proceed to add the honey. Mix it up with a spoon and there you go! You have your lip scrub!
If the mixture is too grainy for you then you may add more honey. But do keep in mind that you should always strive to have more sugar than honey to have a good exfoliant effect. But of course, you may manipulate the consistency to your liking.
How to Preserve the Homemade Lip Scrub:
More good news is that this DIY lip scrub can last up to a month! Use it once or a maximum of twice per week to upkeep your lip’s moisture and smoothness.
Just make sure to store it in a cool and dry place.
This DIY lip scrub with honey is bound to make your lips super soft and moisturised. Especially during the harsh winter months. And all you’ll need are 2 ingredients and you’ll have smoother and softer lips in less than 5 minutes. You also can use this scrub all year round.
